Hosting is cheap to start and easy to overpay for. The headline price you see is almost always an introductory rate; the number that matters is what you pay when it renews.

The rough price bands (2026)

• Shared hosting: ~$2–5/month. Fine for most brochure sites and small stores.
• Cloud hosting: ~$8–20/month. More power and isolation for growing, busier sites.
• VPS: ~$5–30/month. For custom apps and developers who want control.

The traps to watch

• The renewal jump. A $2.99 plan can renew at $9–12. Always check both numbers.
• Paid "essentials". SSL, backups and email should be included, not upsold.
• Long lock-ins. The best per-month price usually needs a longer term, so only commit once you have tested support.
